Celebrity blogger Rumi Neely of the Fashion Toast was spotted front and center at the Obakki Fall / Winter 2010 fashion show last week. Just to wrap your head around this, Rumi’s blog gets over 75,000 hits a day, making her one of the most influential fashion bloggers in the world. We invited her to come down from sunny San Diego to rainy Vancity to preview our edgy collection first hand. Rumi is seen here wearing Obakki’s cozy, slouchy off-shoulder sweater, made from Alpaca wool, and our fitted little black dress with bust seams. Did we mention Obakki got to play dress up with Rumi? Stay tuned for an exclusive Obakki interview with Rumi, only on our Obakki Blog!
For all those barbecues and patio parties, tie dye is a summer must-have. Even Farfetch.com can’t get enough of our free-spirited tie-dye pieces. We personally select the traditional Shibori fabric found exclusively in Japan and hand-make the garments in our own design studio in Vancouver, Canada. The technique used in Shibori depends not only on the desired pattern, but the characteristics of the cloth being dyed. Shibori dates back to the 8th century and was worn by the greatest emperors of Japan.
Something to note, on that hot and sunny day your skin will love us for using 100% silk.
Obakki hosted the Prêt-A-Pour-Tea fundraiser and fashion show last Tuesday May 18th, 2010. Prêt-A-Pour-Tea is an ongoing event that benefits research for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) as well as supporting local haute couture. The CBCF’s ambitious goal is to eliminate breast cancer by the year 2020. In light of this goal, Obakki helped launch Prêt-A-Pour-Tea’s fundraising project where 2020 photos will be collected for an inspiring collage by local Vancouver artist, Pamela Masik. For more information on how to support the cause, go to http://pretapourtea.com/.
Our fashion show was a big hit, featuring our current Spring / Summer 2010 line. Thank you MJ from around the way for posting this video!
