The industry’s best of the best mingled at our Obakki F/W 10 show and everyone agreed- Obakki’s got a new edge. As Alexandra Suhner from Searching For Style put it: ”I finally started to feel hope for the Vancouver fashion industry. It was definitely the ‘hippest’ Vancouver fashion event I’ve been to so far“. Of course if you have been following us, celebrity blogger and fashion icon, Rumi Neely, from the Fashion Toast sat front and center at the show. Stay tuned for an exclusive interview.
So what inspired our new collection? Two words: Glam Rock. The line featured a mixture of rock ‘n’ roll leathers with Obakki’s signature soft and free-spirited fabrics. Slouchy, warm knits always play a big role in welcoming the fall season. Toying with geometry the collection integrated asymmetric shapes and patterned lines. Whether you’re on a roadie or backstage at your favorite band’s concert, Fall / Winter 2010 has got something for you. Self-made trend-setter, Erika Marie from the Fashion CHALET shows her support for the Obakki Foundation. Best known for her everyday sweet romantic pieces, this girl-next-door is on the radar as an up and coming fashion blogger.
The Obakki Foundation went to Cameroon, Africa and gave 150 orphans a piece of paper and asked them these questions:
WHAT MAKES YOU SAD? WHAT MAKES YOU AFRAID? WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
Using their words and drawings as inspiration, we created pieces like our Obakki Foundation Graphic Scarf, as seen being worn by Erika below.
“It was incredibly gratifying and emotional to show the children the power of their words,” said Treana Peake, owner and founder of Obakki and Obakki Foundation. “They’re seeing that because of their answers, proper food, education and health care will soon be available. They’re giving themselves a future.”
100% of the proceeds go back to the children in the orphanages, because it started with their answers.
As StyleCaster‘s trend expert Janice Chou puts it, school may be out but preppy is always in. Model, Aline Schneider from One Management preps for summer in soft pastels, with Obakki’s pleat front shorts. Pair it with light, sheer fabrics such as our 100% silk racer back tank to add that feminine touch. Don’t forget the sock and heels combo to complete your good girl look.
Check out the video below for a behind-the-scenes interview with photographer, Bon Duke, and his inspiration for the preppy pastel photo shoot.
