Branding & Creative Conceptualization:
- Market research and SWOT analysis.
- Formal and creative writing.
- Identifying trends and tastemakers.
- Seasonal planning and critical path.

Hoping everyone had a lovely long Easter weekend. Here are a few pictures snapped by Treana on her trip to Vancouver Island yesterday.

Spanish photographer, Alvaro Sanchez-Montañes, photographed the abandoned properties of Kolmaskop, a ghost town in the Namib desert. This ‘Indoor Desert’ series feature the homes and public buildings of a town that was once a rich diamond mining village. The villagers moved when richer diamond deposits were discovered further south. The properties were left to be filled with sand from the winds of the desert.

The Juno Awards are happening on Sunday at Canada’s capital city and what the hey – we’re getting into the fun of it. Our Founder/Creative Director, Treana Peake is set to walk the red carpet in Obakki style, but she’s undecided on the dress.

Your pick – the Dani Dress from our Holiday 2011/12 Collection – a music award show appropriate dress inspired by the Jazz Age of the 1920’s. It’s a current style that has been trending on the runway from the look – drop-waist and fringe, to the attitude – unfussy yet polished.

Or – the Juba Bodice from our upcoming Fall/Winter 2012 Collection – a limited edition piece based on the mid-20th-century bodices worn by tribes in Africa. Inspired by Obakki’s current efforts drilling water wells in South Sudan, this garment is a shining example of Treana’s exploration of Sudanese culture through fashion.

Kaleidoscopic pop art by Damien Hirst, an inspiration to Obakki’s Spring/Summer 12 Collection.

Emak Bakia is Man Ray’s 1926 surrealist masterpiece. The film is a kaleidoscope of images that emphasize light and shadow, morphing between reality and representation. Featuring sculptures by Pablo Picasso and some of Man Ray’s mathematical creations, still objects come to life with an early stop motion technique. Watch.

Kaleidoscope is an animated short created by Len Lye in 1935 for Churchman’s cigarettes. The combination of painterly backgrounds and geometric shapes exhibit a primitive beauty. Len Lye was a major figure in experimental filmmaking as well as a kinetic sculptor who believed that motion could be part of the language of art. Watch.
