On a farm that has been in the same family for generations, our partner Frances V.H. manages a group of artisans who hand-weave mohair rugs using a technique passed down through the generations.
The South African region of Karoo has been known for mohair production for centuries. And with a completely local supply chain, this weaving collective provides employment for skilled artisans in rural South Africa while championing a sustainable economy.
“We created a platform for women in rural communities to have their products exposed to an appreciative market that ultimately drives sales, secures income and reaffirms the value of indigenous knowledge transferal to the next generation.” - Frances
Mohair Accent Rug | Oxblood
HAND-LOOMED IN SOUTH AFRICA
Skillfully hand-loomed using thick mohair fibre, your feet will fall in love with these super-soft and stylish accent rugs.
Custom sizes and colours available on request.
Every step from spinning to carefully trimming the finished rug is meticulously carried out by hand, woven by our artisan partners in the arid Karoo region of South Africa. Mohair, the fleece of an Angora goat, is one of the world's most ancient, exclusive and sustainable natural fibres. Mohair is soft, durable and has a beautiful lustre that adds a rich intensity and dimension to colour. These qualities make mohair ideal for rugs, no to mention the fact that the fibre is naturally stain-resistant and non-flammable.
- MEASUREMENTS: 2' x 3', 4' x 6', 6' x 9'
- MATERIALS: 100% mohair
- COLOUR: Oxblood
- ORIGIN: South Africa
- SHIPPING + RETURNS: All of our handwoven mohair rugs are made to order by our artisan partners in the Karoo, and ship within 4-6 weeks. Due to the custom weaving and limited nature of these pieces, all rugs are final sale.
- CLEANING: Handmade mohair carpets offer excellent durability and should last a lifetime if properly cared for. Attend to stains or spillages immediately. Mop the affected area gently using a solution of mild detergent and cool water. Avoid steam cleaning as colours may run. Dry on a flat surface.
- FADING + COLOUR FASTNESS: Over time all materials will fade in strong sunlight. Our rugs are reversible and it is advised to turn them from time to time. The hand-dying process makes rugs less colourfast.
