Sculpted by Love
An artist who sees with his heart

José GarcÃa Antonio is a master sculptor from San Antonino Castillo Velasco, Oaxaca, whose work is deeply intertwined with love and legacy. After going blind in his 50s, José turned inward—sculpting the one image he never wanted to forget: his wife Teresita. Now in his 80s, José continues to create every piece by touch, guided by memory and his wife’s quiet presence in the workshop. Their bond is the heart of his practice—unspoken, unwavering, and endlessly inspiring.
A Story in Every Piece
Whimsy, romance, and personal history

José’s sculptures often depict his wife as a mermaid—an homage to stories his mother once told him about the world’s most beautiful women. Each piece is personal, marked by Teresita’s distinctive features and a sense of playful intimacy. Whether the figures are dancing, embracing, or gazing skyward, they carry the magic of a life shared and a love that endures. These are more than works of art—they’re chapters in a lifelong love story, told in clay.

Clay, Memory, and Mastery
Tradition shaped by instinct and heart

José works with the rich red clay of Oaxaca using nothing more than his hands, memory, and generations-old techniques. There are no molds, no machines—just pure craftsmanship passed down through time. His sculptures are instinctual and deeply personal, shaped by touch and guided by love. Each piece reflects a lifetime of dedication and the timeless artistry of someone fully connected to his material, his culture, and his story.
