What makes Obakki skincare different?
Obakki skincare begins with exceptional plant-based ingredients and the people and places behind them. We source botanicals from regions around the world where they have been grown, gathered, and used for generations, working with small-scale producers and women-led cooperatives wherever possible.
Our formulas are crafted in small batches in Canada with a focus on purposeful ingredients, thoughtful sourcing, and effective, uncomplicated skincare. From ingredient to finished product, every decision reflects our commitment to quality, transparency, and respect for people and the planet.
Are your products organic, vegan, and cruelty-free?
All of our skincare is vegan and cruelty-free, and crafted with deep respect for people, animals, and the planet. While not every ingredient is certified organic, we prioritize organic and wild-harvested botanicals, including ingredients sourced from remote regions where they grow naturally with minimal intervention.
Many of these ingredients are gathered by women-led cooperatives and small-scale producers directly from their natural environments. For these producers, formal organic certification can be prohibitively expensive despite the traditional and low-intervention methods they use.
Where organic certification applies, it is clearly identified on the individual product. Regardless of certification, our commitment remains the same: thoughtfully sourcing high-quality ingredients while respecting the communities and environments they come from.
Where are your products made?
Our skincare is thoughtfully crafted in Canada, but its story begins far beyond our borders. We source ingredients from some of the most remarkable regions in the world—places where the climate, landscape, and generations of local knowledge shape the botanicals that grow there.
From the Moroccan desert to the landscapes of Uganda and South Sudan, many of our ingredients are hand-harvested by small-scale producers and women-led cooperatives. Each ingredient carries the story of its origin before being brought together in our small-batch formulations in Canada.
How are your ingredients sourced?
We seek out high-quality plant-based ingredients from their places of origin, prioritizing traditional harvesting practices, small-scale producers, and women-led cooperatives wherever possible.
Many of our botanicals are wild-harvested by hand in the communities where they have grown for generations. This approach allows us to celebrate exceptional ingredients while supporting the knowledge, livelihoods, and landscapes behind them.
Do your products expire, and what’s their shelf life? How should I store them?
Our products have a shelf life of approximately 2–3 years and are produced in small batches to help maintain their freshness and quality. Each product is marked with a batch number, allowing us to trace when it was produced.
For the best experience, we recommend using your products within 12 months of opening. Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat, and keep lids and caps tightly closed between uses. For products in jars, avoid introducing water into the container to help protect the integrity of the formula.
How often do you restock, and how fresh is the product when I receive it?
We produce our skincare in small batches and restock throughout the year. This allows us to produce in more intentional quantities rather than relying on large-scale production, helping us maintain the freshness and quality of each batch.
Are your products suitable for sensitive or reactive skin?
Our skincare is made with thoughtfully selected, plant-based ingredients and includes options suited to sensitive skin. Because every complexion is different, we recommend patch testing any new product before incorporating it into your routine, particularly if your skin is sensitive or reactive.
If you have eczema or another diagnosed skin condition, we recommend speaking with your healthcare provider or dermatologist before introducing a new skincare product.
Are your products suitable for kids, and can they be used during pregnancy or nursing?
Our formulations are designed primarily for adult skin. While many of our ingredients are plant-based and gentle, we recommend consulting a pediatrician before using skincare products on children, particularly those with young or sensitive skin.
If you are pregnant or nursing, we recommend reviewing the individual product ingredients with your healthcare provider before use.
What’s the difference between scented and unscented products?
Our scented products use natural botanical ingredients to create their aroma rather than synthetic fragrance. Our unscented options contain no added fragrance and are a good choice for those who prefer a neutral experience or may be sensitive to fragrance.
Individual sensitivities can vary, so we always recommend reviewing the full ingredient list and patch testing before use if your skin is particularly reactive.
Are your products hypoallergenic?
While our formulas are designed with thoughtfully selected ingredients, they are not formally certified as hypoallergenic. Because sensitivities and allergies vary from person to person, we recommend reviewing the individual product ingredients and patch testing before first use.
