Palm Weavers of Guerrero
The Palm Weavers of Guerrero represent a collective of more than eighty families who carry forward one of the region’s most enduring traditions. Working with sustainably harvested local palm, artisans create baskets and household pieces using techniques that date back to pre-Hispanic times. These methods have been preserved through generations, shared with patience and anchored in cultural heritage.
The collective was formed to strengthen livelihood opportunities in the Sierra de Guerrero region, helping artisans reach wider markets while maintaining the integrity of their craft. Obakki partnered with the community to support essential needs, including the installation of one hundred rain-catchment systems in Tlamacazapa. Access to clean water allows families to focus on their work, care for their homes and build long-term stability. Each woven piece reflects resilience, ancestry and the quiet beauty of sustainable craft.
