From the Moroccan Desert to Your Skin: The Power of Prickly Pear Oil

In the dry winds of the Moroccan desert, a resilient cactus grows—thriving in harsh conditions and holding centuries of skin-healing wisdom. From these fruits, we extract one of the world’s most nutrient-rich oils: prickly pear oil.

WHAT MAKES OUR PRICKLY PEAR OIL DIFFERENT
At Obakki, everything begins with the hands of our artisan partners. Our prickly pear facial oil is hand-gathered by women-led cooperatives in Morocco and cold-pressed in small batches at our Vancouver studio to ensure freshness, potency, and integrity in every drop.
On our recent sourcing trip, we met the women behind our prickly pear oil and learned just how rare and precious this ingredient has become — especially as climate shifts and environmental changes reshape the landscape.
Our prickly pear seed oil varies naturally in hue, from golden yellow to vibrant green. This shift is a result of rainfall during the growing season. A wetter year yields a more golden tint, while a drier climate produces a green hue. Just like olive oil, these subtle variations are a mark of authenticity and quality—not inconsistency.
Every bottle is cold-pressed, 100% organic and produced from cactus fruit grown without irrigation. The result? An oil that is as pure as it is powerful—preserving both skin health and environmental integrity.

THE BENEFITS OF PRICKLY PEAR OIL
Every drop of prickly pear oil is a quiet powerhouse—rich in nutrients, naturally resilient, and deeply nourishing. It’s one of the most labor-intensive oils to produce, requiring nearly a million seeds to create just a single liter. But what it offers in return is nothing short of remarkable.
1. Deep Hydration Without the Heaviness: At its core, prickly pear is a moisture magnet. Rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin E, it replenishes dry, dull skin—leaving it soft, bouncy, and luminous. Unlike heavier oils, it absorbs quickly, delivering hydration without a greasy finish.
2. A Natural Brightener + Skin Soother: With regular use, prickly pear oil benefits include:
- Brighter, more even skin tone
- Faded dark spots and pigmentation
- Softened fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduced inflammation and redness
3. Lightweight Defence for Sensitive Skin: Naturally antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, prickly pear seed oil protects your skin from daily stressors while calming irritation, breakouts, or hormonal imbalances. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin—and powerful enough for visible results.

HOW TO USE PRICKLY PEAR OIL ON YOUR FACE
Use it as your serum step, morning or night—after cleansing and toning, and before (or in place of) your moisturizer. Gently press 2–3 drops into slightly damp skin to lock in hydration and deliver nutrients deep below the surface.

THE FINAL WORD
This is plant medicine—harvested with intention, crafted in small batches, and rooted in purity. From the Moroccan desert to your skin, our prickly pear oil is skincare the way nature intended.
