Ngwenya, Eswatini
The Eswatini Glass Collective
Rooted in the mountains of Eswatini, this pioneering glassblowing studio has become one of Africa’s most celebrated centers of craftsmanship. Established in the late 1970s, it introduced the ancient art of glassblowing to local artisans who transformed it into something uniquely their own.
Guided by Sibusiso Mhlanga—one of Africa’s most influential glassblowers—generations of makers have refined their technique, creating elegant, mouth-blown glassware made entirely from recycled bottles. Each piece is shaped by hand, capturing both tradition and innovation in its form.
Today, The Eswatini Glass Collective continues to thrive as a symbol of sustainable design and artistic resilience—a place where discarded glass is reborn into luminous, timeless works of art.
