Story

Reclaimed. Sustainable. Eternal.

Serving boards from Steelwood Design invite you to begin your story when you use this master-crafted wooden piece as intended – to bring family and friends together over splendid food. At the same time, you are continuing the stories of others, ensuring they will be preserved in the deep, rich history of this wood. The marks. The blemishes. The imperfections.

Crafted using upcycled oak wood and completed with a 5-step finishing process, these serving boards get their unique stained colour when the wood's natural tannin react with a simple application of iron oxide. Beautifully aged wood reinvented into a handcrafted heirloom piece that's ready to start new traditions.

Steelwood Design

North Vancouver-based designer Alexis Dodd is the creative force behind Steelwood Design. Working with her father in their studio, they craft each piece together by hand using woodworking skills that clearly run in the family. Their goal is to create functional art for the home kitchen all while emphasizing the importance of sustainable, local design.

Each piece of reclaimed wood has a story to tell. In the Japanese tradition of Wabi Sabi, the artisans believe that in retaining the blemishes and not hiding them but celebrating them, a new chapter begins for the repurposed wood. The chapter of you – and your family and friends.
