Story

Hand-crafted in Kawagoe, Japan, Haze candles honour the centuries-old tradition of warosoku, Japanese candles made using a meticulous layering technique known as Tegake-seiho. Wax derived from the fruit of the Japanese wax tree is applied in successive layers, creating candles with a distinctive, vibrant flame that produces very little soot. True to traditional Japanese craftsmanship, the wax is sourced from Fukuoka and Nagasaki, while the wicks are made in Nara, bringing together the expertise of artisans across Japan.

HAZE

Founded in 2012, HAZE is a Japanese candle studio devoted to preserving the traditional craft of warosoku while bringing its quiet beauty into contemporary life. Based in Kawagoe, Saitama, the studio creates plant-based candles using tegake, a centuries-old process of applying warm wax by hand in successive layers.

Working with wax extracted from Japanese wax tree fruit and handcrafted wicks made from washi paper, rush pith, and cotton, HAZE honours a network of specialized makers across Japan. The resulting candles are distinguished by their generous, gently moving flames and subtly textured surfaces.

Inspired by the Japanese appreciation for impermanence, HAZE finds beauty in the fleeting nature of candlelight. Each candle is an invitation to slow down, appreciate the present, and discover something extraordinary in an everyday ritual.
