Story

Named after the mythical Japanese tree spirit and inspired by the shape of a traditional Japanese firecracker ball, the Kodama features a sculptural ceramic form that separates into two halves—revealing a candleholder on one side and an incense holder on the other.

Rooted in traditional Japanese craftsmanship, Haze follows time-honoured techniques, using natural materials, and drawing inspiration from the changing seasons and the quiet beauty of everyday rituals. Each piece reflects the brand’s philosophy of slowing down, embracing the present, and finding beauty in fleeting moments.

HAZE

Founded in 2012, HAZE is a Japanese candle studio devoted to preserving the traditional craft of warosoku while bringing its quiet beauty into contemporary life. Based in Kawagoe, Saitama, the studio creates plant-based candles using tegake, a centuries-old process of applying warm wax by hand in successive layers.

Working with wax extracted from Japanese wax tree fruit and handcrafted wicks made from washi paper, rush pith, and cotton, HAZE honours a network of specialized makers across Japan. The resulting candles are distinguished by their generous, gently moving flames and subtly textured surfaces.

Inspired by the Japanese appreciation for impermanence, HAZE finds beauty in the fleeting nature of candlelight. Each candle is an invitation to slow down, appreciate the present, and discover something extraordinary in an everyday ritual.
