Hatay Weavers
The Hatay Weavers carry forward a five-generation tradition of textile making on century-old looms, creating organic cotton and linen pieces through slow and intentional craft. Led by Ali and designed in collaboration with Mizar and Alcor, the family hand-warps each yarn and ties every tassel, producing textiles that reflect both heritage and thoughtful design. Their work is rooted in sustainable practice, using materials that meet strict safety standards and require minimal energy to care for.
When the 2023 earthquakes devastated their region, destroying homes and their studio, the artisans chose to rebuild their lives through their craft. Obakki and the Obakki Foundation partnered with Mizar and Alcor to provide emergency relief, followed by ongoing support to help restore the workshop and stabilize the community’s livelihood. Their textiles now carry the strength of this resilience, honouring both tradition and renewal.
