Janaki Larsen
Ceramicist Janaki Larsen grew up between the prairies of Alberta and the coast of British Columbia in a family of artists, surrounded by studios, materials, and the everyday act of making. She discovered her own language in clay while studying at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.
Each of Janaki’s vessels is hand-thrown and hand-glazed, resulting in forms that are intentionally individual rather than uniform. Her quiet, minimalist work is influenced by wabi-sabi and by the irregular beauty she observes in the natural world, from weathered surfaces to the edge of a decaying leaf.
Moving between function and sculpture, her bowls, plates, and vessels are made to be lived with. Over time, they gather marks, memories, and their own histories, becoming objects that feel both contemporary and somehow unearthed from another place.
