Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec, Mexico
Julio Martinez Diaz
Julio learned the ancestral pottery traditions of his community at a young age, guided by elders who understood the deep relationship between clay and culture. The clay he works with is dug by hand, shaped slowly and fired using methods passed down through centuries. Each step is grounded in the rhythms of his land and the knowledge of those who came before him.
Julio is committed to preserving these traditions while building opportunities for others. His vision is to create a community art and pottery center where artisans can gather to share skills, protect their heritage and support one another. His pieces reflect this purpose. They are elegant, thoughtful forms inspired by the natural world and the stories held within the earth. Through his work, Julio honours the past while shaping a future rooted in creativity and cultural strength.
