Story
Turkey suffered its strongest earthquake since 1939 in Feb 2023. The devastation is not over, and the people still suffer from a lack of food, water, and housing. ALL profits from the sale of Obakki’s Turkish products are being returned to our artisan community to help them rebuild. In addition, our foundation can receive direct donations here: Earthquake Relief
These scarves are a testament to the rich tradition of silk weaving, and the lightweight and breathable nature make them the perfect accessories for any season.
Our silk scarves are handwoven on the Turquoise Coast of Turkey by local artisans who remain faithful to their artisanal skills – skills they inherited through the teachings of ancestral tradition. Combining contemporary design inspired by Mediterranean and African cultures, these artisans engage in ethical production using sustainable materials to support local economies. This is a product that not only looks good, but it feels good – in more ways than one.

Meet Our Artisan Partner
Anatolia, Turkey
Hatay Weavers
For five generations, our artisan partners in Turkey have crafted exquisite silk scarves on century-old looms in Anatolia. Led by Ali and his father Hasan, a UNESCO-recognized Living Human Treasure celebrated for his mastery of Silk Road silk, the family preserves the rich history of this ancient trade with their exceptional craftsmanship.
Anatolia’s historic role as a bridge between East and West made it a key point on the Silk Road, facilitating the exchange of silk and other precious goods. Our artisans continue this legacy, maintaining a tradition that has earned them numerous awards over generations.
In February 2023, devastating earthquakes struck Southern Turkey, causing severe damage to over 500,000 buildings, including our artisans' workshop. Many lost their lives or homes, but despite this immense loss, the artisans have shown remarkable resilience. With support from Obakki and Mizar & Alcor, efforts are underway to provide emergency aid, repair the workshop, and help over 60 families rebuild. By purchasing a silk scarf, you directly contribute to their recovery and the preservation of this cherished tradition.
