Story

This stunning clay piece speaks directly to the heart of Oaxaca state. The pottery is different in each region, with different colourings, different processes, and different clays – all with unique characteristics. Artisans here dig their own clay, form their own pieces, and fire their own wares, all on the shoulders of their ancestors who walked this land before them. The organic nature of these pieces—they’re 100% hand-formed without the use of a mold—there are no two pieces that are exactly alike

Santa María, Mexico

The Enrique Family

The Enriquez Family are multi-generational potters working in Santa María Atzompa, a village shaped by centuries of ceramic tradition dating back to the ancient Zapotec civilization. Two sisters and a brother continue the craft they learned from their parents and grandparents, forming each piece by hand from rich local clay they dig themselves. Their workshop remains small and deeply rooted in family life, where pottery is shaped slowly through practiced hands and shared memory.

Each piece is fired in a handmade, wood-fed open kiln that has stood on their property for decades. Without molds or mechanical intervention, no two forms are ever identical. The subtle marks of fire, ash, and earth give their work its quiet character, shaped as much by nature as by human hands.
