North Vancouver-based designer Alexis Dodd is the creative force behind Steelwood Design. Working with her father in their family studio they craft each piece together by hand using woodworking skills that clearly run in the family. Their goal is to create functional art for the home kitchen all while emphasizing the importance of sustainable, local design.
Whether it comes from the cabinets of a home that spent decades filled with love, or from a table gifted to a soldier and his wife as they began a new life after the war, each piece of reclaimed wood that Alexis uses has a story to tell. In the Japanese tradition of Wabi Sabi, the artisans believe that in retaining the blemishes and not hiding them but celebrating them, a new chapter begins for the repurposed wood. The chapter of you – and your family and friends.
