OBAKKI + THE OBAKKI FOUNDATION

Obakki and the Obakki Foundation

At Obakki, we know that giving back is the only way forward. We also know that consumers increasingly value socially conscious brands that support a good cause. But Obakki’s approach to philanthropy is a bit different than some, because it’s based on strategic impact investments and not on charity.

Obakki’s commitment to sustainability and authentic partnerships is infused in every aspect of our business as well as that of our philanthropic counterpart, the Obakki Foundation. The foundation is likewise committed to preserving, progressing and celebrating diverse craft cultures from around the world—while also creating sustainable change.

Collaboration is key to every project. Treana travels to each country and, along with our local team on the ground, establishes sustainable solutions. Because everyone's story is unique, our programs are as diverse as our partners but one thing remains constant—we work with capable, talented people who are ready and motivated to improve their lives.

What We Do is Never Charity

What the Obakki Foundation does is never charity. We source ethical, high-quality products from traditional artisans and rural co-ops that are experts in their given fields. These partnerships offer good trading practices while providing creators with global market access. And rather than relying on a third party to manage our projects, we oversee them ourselves to ensure their integrity.

At the Obakki Foundation, our projects empower people to transform their circumstances. By identifying gaps and strategically investing in sustainable solutions, we're able to facilitate real change in the areas of clean water, agriculture + food security, health, education, and livelihood initiatives.

We Share a Name—And Values

Obakki is a purpose-driven business that appreciates traditions over trends, and our business model is infused with the ethos of the Obakki Foundation. We share a name, and our values: honesty, authenticity and social ethics. Above all else. That means when we say 100% of any donation to the Obakki Foundation goes directly to our projects, they really do. Since day one, we’ve been committed to our 100% promise thanks in large part to our private donors and Obakki, who absorb all administrative fees.

The people we partner with through the Obakki Foundation want to work and are ready to put in the effort. We simply identify gaps and invest strategically in sustainable solutions. This way, we're able to empower others to create real and lasting change through their own hard work, skill and resources.

In meeting these artisans--who are often stepping into the role of entrepreneur for the first time--we are struck by their passion and dedication to tradition. And also by how they’re seeking new opportunities to educate, inform and inspire people with techniques that have been handed down through generations.
