Story

Each of these cushion covers is handwoven by a collective of over 50 women artisans in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains using wool from the rare Siroua sheep. From shearing and spinning to dyeing and weaving, every step is done by hand using ancestral techniques passed down through generations. The wool is naturally tinted using henna-based dyes—an ancient method nearly forgotten in Moroccan textiles—producing rich, earthy tones that echo the landscapes of the Atlas region. Every cushion cover is a unique expression of amazing tradition, cultural resilience, and timeless design.

The Weavers of the High Atlas: A Legacy of Craft, Community, and Natural Dyeing

In Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains, a collective of over fifty women artisans continues a centuries-old weaving tradition rooted in Amazigh heritage. Together, they operate a self-sustaining cooperative that provides fair wages, social security, and pensions—empowering women through community and craft.

Their process honors the old ways: wool is hand-sheared, washed in mountain streams, spun by hand, and tinted with henna-based natural dyes that protect both land and maker. These dyes use minimal water and no chemicals, preserving Morocco’s ecosystems while producing rich, earthen hues that reflect the Atlas landscape.

“We are weaving the way our grandmothers once did—slowly, naturally, and with respect for the earth.” Through every thread, the women of the High Atlas preserve both cultural and environmental heritage, ensuring their craft continues to sustain generations to come.
