Story

For three generations, the Japanese Kiln Collective has created tableware rooted in Japan’s centuries-old ceramic traditions. Working closely with skilled craftspeople and kilns across Japan, the collective brings together family knowledge, regional techniques, and a thoughtful approach to contemporary dining.

Across four distinct series—Hajima, Sabi Kairagi, Kasumi, and Genbu—each piece offers its own expression of material, texture, and finish. Subtle variations in colour and surface reveal traces of the making process, shaped by clay, fire, and human touch. Designed to complement rather than compete with what they hold, these vessels create a quiet stage for food, gathering, and everyday ritual.

The Japanese Kiln Collective

For three generations, the Japanese Kiln Collective has been creating tableware shaped by a deep understanding of Japanese ceramic tradition and the hands of the craftspeople behind it.

Working alongside skilled ceramic and glass artisans across Japan, the collective brings together family knowledge, regional techniques and a contemporary approach to form and function. Many of these methods have been refined within workshops and families for generations, giving each piece a sense of place and lineage.

Their philosophy begins with the material itself: how clay feels, how glaze responds to firing, how a vessel sits in the hand and, ultimately, how food will be presented upon it. Subtle variations in colour, texture and finish are embraced as part of the process.
