HANDMADE IN BELGIUM

This tall cork cylinder is both strong and bold in its visual statement – and it comes with a convenient steel insert, making it the perfect vessel to hold fresh flowers, or a beverage container to keep drinks cool.

Story

The design of this tall cork vase represents the abstraction of the trunk of a cork oak after being harvested. The shadow gap accentuates the geometry from before and after the harvest to symbolize the cycle of life. In nine years, the tree is ready once again for harvest.

Studio Corkinho uses organic, sustainable material, harvested in traditional fashion from the cork oak fields in the Portuguese hills of Alentejo. It takes nine years for the cork tree to grow back its bark and as it regenerates, it absorbs five times more carbon from the atmosphere to fuel the photosynthesis it requires. Harvesting the cork is a net benefit to the environment.

Cork is fire retardant, making it a perfect choice for homewares and furniture. It's warm visually, and it's both light and sound-absorbing.

Studio Corkinho

Studio Corkinho mixes nature and design in a sublime marriage of modern style and environmental awareness. The founders, Cédric Etienne and Klas Dalquist, witnessed the stillness of the cork harvest in Portugal and observed how the harvest respects the trees, and their multi-disciplinary studio was born.

Based in Antwerp, Belgium, this is the kind of artisanal group that Obakki searches the world for. Their products are organic and sustainable and Studio Corkinho gives back, planting one tree in Senegal for every piece of their Mother collection sold. With their dynamic cork homewares and furniture, they curate stillness and bring deeper meaning back into spaces. And back into our lives.
