Pedro Montaño

In Teotitlán del Valle, a Zapotec village in Oaxaca celebrated for its centuries-old weaving and natural dye traditions, Pedro and Diego Montaño work side by side, continuing the craft passed down through their family. This community is renowned for its mastery of colors sourced from the region’s native materials—cochineal for vibrant reds, indigo for deep blues, and marigold and pecan shells for golden and earthy tones.

On their traditional pedal looms, Pedro, a master weaver, and his son Diego transform hand-spun wool into rugs and textiles that carry the essence of their culture. Each piece reflects the patience and skill of generations, blending time-honored Zapotec motifs with subtle contemporary influences.

Through their work, Pedro and Diego preserve Teotitlán’s rich heritage, creating textiles that bring the colours, stories, and traditions of their village into homes and spaces around the world.
