HANDMADE IN MEXICO

A functional and beautiful mortar and pestle, hand carved from lava rock and Tazalam wood.

Story

Volcanic rock has been used in Mexican kitchens since pre-Columbian times, and this is a classic example of a traditional molcajete, used to grind and crush ingredients.

This talented design collective based in Mexico City works with artisans from several states in the country to create 100% handmade objects for the home with the highest quality materials, highlighting a beautiful craft tradition.

Combining the talents of expert woodworkers from Veracruz and Mérida along with stone carvers from Puebla, the designers of these products are inspired by the historical, natural and primitive roots of the Mexican people, along with the beauty of the raw native materials––Guayacán and Tzalam woods, lava rock and marble.

Artisans of Mexico City

This talented design collective based in Mexico City is the brainchild of an industrial designer from Yucatán, Mexico and a textile designer from Caracas, Venezuela. Giving true meaning to the word ‘collective’, they work with artisans from several states in Mexico – Puebla, Veracruz and Yucatán.

This collective is inspired by Mexico’s historical, natural, and primitive roots. They are founded on the philosophy that we all deserve special, timeless objects in our homes that tell a story through the weathered hands of the finest craftspeople. And they deliver on this promise – using the textures and intentions of these ancient materials and designs to create contemporary pieces with ancestral power.
