Story

This talented design collective based in Mexico City works with artisans from several states in the country to create 100% handmade objects for the home with the highest quality materials, highlighting a beautiful craft tradition.

Combining the talents of expert woodworkers from Veracruz and Mérida along with stone carvers from Puebla, the designers of these products are inspired by the historical, natural and primitive roots of the Mexican people, along with the beauty of the raw native materials––Guayacán and Tzalam woods, lava rock and marble.

Product Care

You will need to season your mortar and pestle before using. Place two tablespoons of rock salt into the mortar. Grind the salt into a fine powder. Now your mortar and pestle is ready to use. As you use it, the stone will become more seasoned.

Wash with warm water immediately after use to prevent staining.

Never use soap! A stiff wire brush with little water and a little scrubbing and then allow your lava rock molcajete to air dry. Do you see those little porous holes on the molcajete? If you use soap, then soap is what your next batch of guacamole or salsa will taste like.

Artisans of Mexico City

This talented design collective based in Mexico City is the brainchild of an industrial designer from Yucatán, Mexico and a textile designer from Caracas, Venezuela. Giving true meaning to the word ‘collective’, they work with artisans from several states in Mexico – Puebla, Veracruz and Yucatán.

This collective is inspired by Mexico’s historical, natural, and primitive roots. They are founded on the philosophy that we all deserve special, timeless objects in our homes that tell a story through the weathered hands of the finest craftspeople. And they deliver on this promise – using the textures and intentions of these ancient materials and designs to create contemporary pieces with ancestral power.
