Meet the Artisan

Mexico

Mariella Motilla

Born into an artistic family in Guanajuato, Mexico – Mariella has always been fascinated by textile work and the seemingly unlimited possibilities. Her large-scale wall hangings, depicting mountains and fields, are extraordinary in their vast, expansive views. And her textile thread chandeliers are art in motion – functional art in motion.

Mariella studied fashion and textile design at the European Institute for Design in Barcelona, Spain, and completed her degree in Mexico City. Her training informed and inspired her work, and she learned a variety of techniques, but more importantly, learned how to be open to new techniques. Said Mariella: "Every time I learn a new technique I am able to make richer pieces."
