OBJECTS OF THE EARTH: A Story of Material, Craft and Origin

Everything we create begins with the natural world—shaped by hand, guided by tradition, and deeply connected to place. Kelp from the coast. Cotton from the field. Colour drawn from the earth. Every piece begins somewhere. This is where ours comes from.
This Earth Day, we return to origin—a quiet celebration of the materials that shape us. Clay, stone, plant, and fibre—each one a gift from the land, transformed with care and reverence. Woven, carved, dyed, and formed by hand, these materials carry the memory of where they came from—and the hands that brought them to life.
What Is a Thoughtful Way to Celebrate Earth Day?
Earth Day is often framed around what we can reduce or remove, but it is also an opportunity to consider what we choose to bring into our homes. The objects we live with, the materials they are made from, and the stories they carry all shape our connection to the world around us.

A meaningful way to celebrate Earth Day is through intentional choices—selecting objects made from natural materials, supporting artisan craftsmanship, and investing in pieces designed to last. Sustainable home decor is not defined by trend, but by origin, process, and longevity.
Materials That Begin with the Earth
To understand how design can contribute to a more sustainable way of living, it begins with material—what it is, where it comes from, and how it is transformed.
CLAY
Hand-harvested from the earth and shaped by artisan hands, this natural material is sun-dried, kiln-fired, and transformed into timeless vessels for the home. Within our collection, the Oaxacan Clay Planter reflects this process in its most elemental form—known in Nahuatl as Atlachinolli, or “burned water.” Shaped by fire and water, it embodies the balance of forces that give clay its strength and beauty. Raw, tactile, and grounded in origin, it brings a quiet presence to any space it inhabits.

NATURAL DYES
Using natural dyes derived from plants like cochineal and marigold, each textile is coloured through a slow, small-batch process rooted in traditional craftsmanship. Across our collections—from Moroccan textiles to Mexican weavings—these plant-based dyes create rich, layered tones unique to each piece. The result is sustainable, artisan-made textiles shaped by natural materials and time.

LAVA ROCK
Sourced from volcanic landscapes, lava rock is shaped by hand using generational techniques passed down through time. Its naturally porous surface—formed through heat and pressure—makes it both functional and deeply tactile. Within the collection, mortar and pestle pieces showcase this material at its most elemental—durable, tactile, and deeply connected to place.

KELP AND LAVENDAR
Sourced from land and sea, materials like beeswax, lavender, and kelp are transformed into candles that bring both light and atmosphere into the home. Within the Tofino collection by Tanya Gabrielle, lavender is used in its purest form—infused through essential oils and finished with dried botanicals. The result is a soft, grounding scent that brings a sense of calm and quiet ritual into everyday spaces.
