When Obakki founder Treana Peake was developing our new line of vegan natural bar soaps, she cultivated a list of the most extraordinary beauty oils to condition, revitalize and protect the skin.
In creating our signature soaps for the hands, face and body, it was crucial that the organic ingredients were also chemical free, palm-oil free, paraben free, sulfate free. But, they also had to nourish, replenish and cleanse the skin with exclusive formulations.
The result? A selection of eco-friendly, sustainable skin care must-haves for your natural beauty product collection (all in biodegradable packaging that features a beautiful, minimalist design).
Here’s the lowdown on the signature ingredients found in each cleansing bar:
Argan Oil
Argan oil is known as liquid gold in Africa, and has been used by women for years to beautify their skin and hair. Treating the skin to a dose of this restorative, vitamin-rich oil makes perfect sense because it’s ideal for all skin types. Argan oil is packed with omega fatty acids, vitamin E, and linoleic acids, all of which work to lightly moisturize skin, soften dry patches, and even reduce acne.
Marula Oil
African Marula oil is often called the elixir of youth because of its rich anti-aging elements, such as oleic acid, that enhance skin’s softness and radiance. Marula is a great choice for dry skin formulations. In addition to being highly moisturizing, it can also help to reduce redness and heal damaged tissue. And, since marula oil contains vitamins C and E, it earns major beauty points for neutralizing free radicals from pollution and sun exposure.
Shea Butter
West African shea butter is intensely nourishing, gentle and easily absorbed. It contains oleic acid, a saturated fatty acid which is highly compatible with the sebum naturally produced by our skin. It contains proven anti-inflammatory and healing properties that condition, tone and soothe skins while sealing in moisture and drawing nutrients deeper. Vitamins A and E also hydrate the skin while protecting and revitalizing the complexion.
Baobab Oil
The baobab tree produces the most nutritious fruit in the world and African women have used the oil derived from this fruit for centuries. Baobab oil has powerful antioxidants and high levels of essential fatty acids, as well as Vitamins A, D, and E. Known for moisturizing, improving elasticity, regenerating cells, baobab oil is also effective for dealing with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
Avocado Oil
Avocado oil is high on everyone’s personal care list because anti-inflammatory properties help skin maintain hydration while minimizing damage from free radicals. The natural oils in avocados contain hydrating properties that can reduce fine lines and wrinkles, helping to keep skin smooth and boost its immunity against stress and other environmental factors. In addition, the beta carotene, protein, lecithin, fatty acids, and vitamins A, D, and E found in avocado oil help moisturize and protect your skin from damaging UV rays and also increase collagen.
Moringa Oil
Moringa oil is derived from Africa’s “miracle plant” and has been used for centuries to protect skin from external pollutants while sealing in hydration. Moringa oil is a powerhouse of oleic acid, making it highly moisturizing and ideal for dry or sensitive skin. It also reduces fine lines and wrinkles, improves the overall appearance of skin and soothes inflammation because it absorbs so deeply into the skin.
Balanites Oil
For centuries, African balanites oil has been prized for its ability to regenerate skin and alleviate acne, with a high concentration of antioxidants that tighten and reinvigorate. Balanites oil contains antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties, which help in healing scars, sunburns and rashes. In addition to naturally tightening and reinvigorating the skin, balanites oil is also great for anti-aging because it’s brimming with fatty acids, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, zinc, thiamine and vitamin E.
