Story

Handmade in Great Britain from seashells, wood, and resin, the collection explores the tension between refinement and wildness, transforming familiar household forms into tactile works of art that feel discovered rather than decorated. Responsibly sourced seashells are individually placed by hand in unexpected compositions, building layers of texture, movement, and sculptural depth—as though each piece has grown organically into its form. Natural variations ensure no two compositions are ever quite alike, giving each work its own distinct character and blurring the boundary between functional object and contemporary sculpture.

London-based craftswoman Sylvie Macmillan creates sculptural homewares from responsibly sourced shells and natural materials. Originally known for her highly intricate work within fashion, Sylvie found herself drawn toward making objects with a more permanent life beyond the moment.

Her work offers a contemporary interpretation of traditional shell craft. Rather than relying on symmetrical patterns or familiar decorative motifs, she studies the way barnacles cling to rocks, coral develops, and marine life gradually overtakes a surface. Each shell is placed by hand so the finished object appears almost to have grown naturally into its form.

Currently centred around candelabras, her evolving collection explores the tension between refinement and wildness, transforming familiar household objects into tactile sculptures that feel discovered rather than decorated.
