Weavers of Gujarat

A dynamic design studio based in Gujarat, India, this collective of over 80 female artisans from more than seven different villages was founded in 2019. Born out of an ever-growing reverence for Indian craft and a taste for contemporary design, this collective is truly a creative amalgamation––a union of the past and the future.

This craft collective creates hand embroidered textiles as a way to tell a deep and profoundly Indian craft story. Based on the tenets of ethical and local sourcing, artisan co-creation, zero waste, and employing women in underserved rural areas, this collaborative process fosters a value-chain that uplifts the livelihoods of these expert artisans and celebrates their traditional craft practices. The values of this co-op are truly aligned with our own key principles at Obakki.

Every creation that is born from the hands of these talented women is formed out of a slow, meditative process that is anchored in the strength of community with a reverence for intentional, generational design.
