Kurinuki is a Japanese word that translates to 'carving out' or 'hollowing out'. This means that the pieces are hand-formed from a solid block of clay that is carved to make the void that holds the contents. The result is that each piece is completely unique, raw-looking, even primitive in its appearance. The heavy bases give a sense of weighty importance when holding it in your hands. Yunomi is a Japanese drinking vessel that is taller than it is wide, with no handle.

Each combination of firing ingredients – from wildflowers to crocodile eggshells and goose feathers – is unique. The design on this stoneware is unrepeatable and, in that sense, your piece will be yours alone. No one else, anywhere in the world, will own an identical piece. Look for the Made of Australia stamp on each piece. And as with all our artisan products, this iece comes with an elegant story card explaining its history and origin.

Product Care

Waterproof and stain resistant. Whilst dishwasher safe, hand washing is recommended wherever possible to extend the life of your pieces. Microwave and oven safe up to 450 degrees. Do not allow known staining ingredients to sit on the surface for a prolonged period of time.

Please Note – While these pieces will be very similar in size and shape, each one is completely unique in character and markings; from dark and moody, to pale and smokey.

Made OF Australia

Everything that comes from this ceramic art studio – from the Australian clays to the native flora and fauna used in the firing, is derived directly from the landscape. So not only is your piece made in Australia – it is made of Australia.

The founder is Anna-Marie Wallace, a half-Italian, British-born Australian artist and designer. She uses organic, indigenous materials such as snakeskin, eggshells from emu and crocodile and goose feathers that fuse with the surface of the clay.

And another thing we like about Anna-Marie? She actively seeks to help other creatives carve out paths to making a living with their art. Her dedication to the local artisan community in her area helps foster new talent to create beautiful things for others to enjoy.

No two pieces from Made of Australia can ever be the same. While similar and complementary in size and shape, the pattern on each piece will always have its own unique character and markings, as does everything in nature.
