Story

Completely non-toxic and ethically handwoven by our artisan partners in Oaxaca, this modern example of Zapotec weaving is a versatile show-stopper.

For the OAXACA ATELIER, quality is in the details. In this small but vibrant community, there is a deep tradition of weaving with the pedal loom, introduced by the Dominican monks in the 16th century. Rugs are meticulously handwoven, and each work is the unique combination of natural fibers, dyes, history, culture and design.

Custom sizes and colours available on request. Contact our team for more details. Please allow 3-5 weeks lead time for each order.

Meet the Artisan

Mexico

Our Weaving Partners From Oaxaca

Located in the southern colonial highlands of Mexico, Oaxaca is a cultural mecca that is rich in customs and traditions. It is also home to our artisan, José, who uses the pure hand-spun wool of local sheep and completely natural dyes to create these stunning rugs.

José weaves rugs dyed with organic colours derived from the plants that flourish in the area. Watching José transform a handful of leaves, a pinch of ash or a drop of citrus into brilliant hues is nothing short of magic. This is where your rug comes from – a combination of nature, tradition, and alchemy – and from José, who weaves the three together.
