HANDMADE IN UGANDA

These charming petite baskets made from sustainable palm and banana leaves are perfect to hold those tiny things around the house or on your desk.

Story

Our eco-friendly woven bowls are handmade by a cooperative of women in Kikorongo, western Uganda, using natural dyes and locally sourced palm and banana leaves. Whether you are using them as a centerpiece on your dining room table or letting them shine as a piece of decor, these baskets will add a sophisticated touch to any room.

The women of Kikorongo weave baskets that feature intricate, geometric designs. The skills they use are ancient, and the community as a whole thrives because of a shared appreciation and reverence for nature and all of its many blessings.

The Women of Kikorongo

In this part of Uganda, residents used to hunt elephants for food but now must find other ways to survive. So, the women of Kikorongo have returned to their ancestral crafts. Many of them are widows who are the sole support of the family.

Using banana and palm leaves, they make diminutive handwoven, coiled baskets with geometric designs, and using the rich soil of Uganda, they create small dark earthenware pots with lids. We admire the courage, strength, and ingenuity of these women. And the beauty of their crafts.
