Madda Studio
Maddalena Forcella has a passion for Chiapas. After living in the region for 25 years and working with the local artisans, she has developed a style that is truly her own, and her work is instantly recognizable.
From sheep to spindle to showroom floor, the process of creation highlights the beauty of the hand-spun wool, natural dyes, and innovative uses of traditional weaving techniques. Indigenous women in Chiapas use a pre-Hispanic drop spindle. The Chiapas sheep, introduced by the Spanish 500 years ago, have fleeces with a range of natural hues, which our artisans have developed into four tones of wool by blending the hues during the spinning process.
