Purpose-Driven Skincare
At Obakki, everything we create begins with the hands of our artisan partners. We work directly with women-led cooperatives across Northern Uganda, South Sudan, Ghana, Tunisia, and Morocco — supporting sustainable harvesting practices that protect local environments and strengthen community economies.
Crafted with nature’s wisdom and the purest raw ingredients, each formula is designed to give you healthy, radiant skin — while honoring cultural traditions, nurturing economic opportunity, and placing ethical sourcing at the heart of everything we do.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are your products organic, vegan, and cruelty-free?
Yes, all of our skincare is vegan, cruelty-free, and crafted with deep respect for people, animals, and the planet. While not every ingredient is certified organic, we prioritize wild-harvested botanicals from untouched regions where pesticides simply aren’t part of the landscape. Many of these ingredients are gathered by women’s co-ops in remote communities—handpicked from their natural environments, where they thrive without intervention.
For these small-scale harvesters, certification can be prohibitively expensive, but their methods are pure by nature—organically grown in the truest sense, untouched by chemicals and nurtured by the land itself. Wherever certification is available, it’s clearly labeled, but our commitment to sourcing the purest ingredients remains unchanged.
Where are your products made?
Our skincare is thoughtfully crafted in Canada, but its story begins far beyond our borders. We source our ingredients from some of the most untouched regions in the world—places where the land shapes the very essence of each botanical. From the cracked earth of the Moroccan Sahara to the lush valleys of Uganda, our products capture the spirit of their origins.
Many of these ingredients are hand-harvested by women-led cooperatives in remote communities—nurtured in sacred soil and gathered with care. Each oil tells the story of its birthplace, and when blended, they become more than skincare; they are a celebration of land, tradition, and purity.
Do your products expire, and what’s their shelf life? How should I store them?
Our products have a shelf life of 2–3 years, a testament to our commitment to small-batch production. Unlike mass-produced skincare, we craft everything in fresh, limited quantities to ensure maximum potency and purity. Each product is marked with a batch number, allowing us to track freshness for you.
For the best experience, we recommend using your products within 12 months of opening. To maintain their quality, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and always keep lids tightly sealed. Avoid introducing water into the containers to preserve their natural integrity.
How often do you restock, and how fresh is the product when I receive it?
We produce in small batches and restock regularly throughout the year. Thanks to this process, your product is always made recently — never sitting in a warehouse for months — ensuring you receive the freshest possible skincare.
Is your packaging recyclable?
Yes — our packaging is thoughtfully designed with sustainability at its core. We use infinitely recyclable 100% aluminum tubes, colourless flint glass vessels, and compostable millboard boxes made from paper production by-products—transforming what would have been waste into something beautiful.
Our aluminum tubes are fully recyclable in curbside streams, requiring far less energy to repurpose than creating new aluminum. Our glass vessels maintain their purity through endless recycling, and our millboard boxes are 100% compostable, leaving no trace behind.
We’ve also eliminated the typical excess of plastic, foam inserts, and tape, and our labels are printed with non-toxic inks and adhesives. This commitment to sustainable design was recognized with the Silver Prize for Sustainable Beauty Packaging at the 2023 Pentawards—a testament to our belief that true sustainability is the new luxury.
Are your products safe for sensitive or reactive skin, or conditions like eczema?
Yes — our skincare is formulated with minimal, plant-based ingredients, making it suitable for sensitive and reactive skin. However, we always recommend doing a patch test, especially if you have eczema or other skin conditions.
Are your products suitable for kids, and can they be used during pregnancy or nursing?
Our formulations are gentle, plant-based, and designed for adult skin. While many ingredients are safe for children, we recommend consulting a pediatrician before use on young or sensitive skin. We also recommend consulting your healthcare provider before use during pregnancy or nursing.
Can I use facial oils if I have oily or combination skin?
Absolutely! It’s a common misconception that facial oils should be avoided if you have oily or combination skin. In reality, the right facial oils can balance your skin's natural oil production and strengthen its protective barrier. When your skin is stripped of its natural oils, it can actually produce more oil to compensate—leading to even greasier skin. Applying a few drops of a lightweight, non-comedogenic oil helps to regulate sebum production, calm inflammation, and lock in moisture without clogging pores.
Why is the Balanites oil more expensive?
Balanites oil is one of our rarest and most precious ingredients, hand-harvested from wild Desert Date trees that thrive in the harsh climates of South Sudan and Northern Uganda. Its scarcity, combined with a labor-intensive extraction process and ethical harvesting practices, makes it highly coveted. Unlike mass-produced oils, Balanites is gathered in small quantities by local communities, ensuring both quality and sustainability. Rich in linoleic acid, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties, its powerful benefits and limited availability contribute to its elevated price.
What’s the difference between scented and unscented products?
Our scented products use only natural botanical extracts — no synthetic fragrance. Unscented options contain no added aroma and are ideal for those with sensitivities or who prefer a neutral experience.
