Our Bronze Casting Partners from Takaoka

Takaoka has been the heart of the Japanese bronze casting industry since the 16th century. The city flourished and built its reputation as the center of the copper industry in Japan over the subsequent 400 years. In 1916, this factory was founded to manufacture Buddhist ritual objects, Japanese tea sets and vases made of brass and bronze. These master metal artists now create unique objects for the home using ancient methods that have remained virtually unchanged.

Each unique product starts with the creation of a sand mold and undergoes several finishing processes. Molten metal is poured into a mold to form an object of the desired shape. Hand-finishing by experienced craftsmen accentuates its material beauty and fineness.

The complex and lengthy process to create each piece has remained virtually unchanged for the past four centuries. Our brassware objects have been handcrafted with a solid weightiness and warmth that can only be achieved through expert craftsmanship.

Over time, the patina of your piece will get deeper and richer. And so, we hope, will your appreciation of these age-old traditions, crafted with such exquisite care and reverence.
